ALEXANDER McQueen committed suicide because he could not bear to be apart from his beloved mother, an inquest heard yesterday.

The fashion legend slashed his wrists with a meat cleaver and ceremonial dagger while high on cocaine and sleeping pills before hanging himself in a wardrobe on the eve of mum Joyce’s funeral.

Designer McQueen, real name Lee Alexander, left a note that read: “Please look after my dogs. I’m sorry, I love you. Lee.”

A laptop found on his bed showed he had been searching the internet to find out how long it would take to die from slitting one’s wrists.

The 30-year-old was “overwhelmed with grief” at Joyce’s death.

DESPAIR

His psychiatrist Dr Stephen Pereira told the inquest how McQueen also believed some of his friends had taken advantage of his fame and he felt “let down” by some long-term relationships.

He added: “He was very close to his mother
